The rules for this one are simple: Challenge runs from September 1, 2008 to February, 28, 2009. Read 5 books that have made into movies. Then watch at least 2 of the movie adaptations of the works you read.
Jessica at The Bluestocking Society (click on link for more information) set up this one in anticipation of the February 2009 Bookworms Carnival, which she is hosting.
As with most challenges, I first see if I own books that I have not read that can meet the challenge criteria, and as luck would have it, I do for this one. So my five books, chosen from my own collection, are:
- Bringing Out The Dead by Joe Connelly
- Seabiscuit: An American Legend by Lauren Hillenbrand
- Friday Night Lights: A Town, A Team and A Dream by H.G. Bissinger
- The Accidental Tourist by Anne Tyler
- Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo
I’ve only seen one of the movie adaptions, Friday Night Lights, but especially would like to see Bringing Out The Dead and The Accidental Tourist. I believe I may have read Friday Night Lights and Johnny Got His Gun when I was younger, but it’s been a while and I don’t remember much.
However, as for the movies, I’ll be watching them all as I’m also going to use the list for Jessica’s brother’s own Lit Flicks Challenge, hosted at his site Bitchin’ Film Reviews. For more on his challenge, see here.
I’ll leave you with this video by Metallica, which uses clips from the movie Johnny Got His Gun:

I’m loving the photograph of your selections. I’m glad that this challenge fits in nicely with the ban on spending book challenge!
