Discovering new blogs with Dewey’s help

In the future, I will be alternating every other post as follows: a post on books I’ve read, am reading or plan to read and a post not related to books I’ve read, am reading or plan to read. So following that formula, here’s a post not related to books I’ve read, am reading or plan to read. (Have I said “books I’ve read, am reading or plan to read” enough?)

I also am still working on posting reviews of books I read earlier in the year, plus providing links and rankings in the sidebar. Oh, and also trying to read more books so I can write about more books here…a vicious cycle I hope to continue to ride for sometime.

I’ve joined Weekly Geeks over at The Hidden Side of A Leaf, and my first assignment is to discover five new blogs. So here goes (in random order):

  • Andi North is “Tripping Toward Lucidity” as “a reader, writer, blogger, college English instructor, editor and manic nut-case.” In the posts I read, she provided not only insightful reviews of books, but also reviews of audiobooks (Anne Lamott: “the most whiny, flighty, airy voice” she’s ever heard) and music: “Nightcrawler,” which she says is “Peter Yorn’s bestest CD.” And she’s a tree-hugger, to boot, with another blog: Unlikely Activist, dedicated to her passions for environmentalism and social activism.
  • Lightheaded shares her “Everyday Reads” where she she shares her “lightheaded takes on books and comics lovely or otherwise.” With a brother-in-law who loves graphic novels, I will be interested in seeing what she writes. I also recently picked up Martin Amis’ “London Fields,” which I look forward to reading in the near future.
  • Christine: She Reads Books, and it seems like she really, really likes, and I’m not saying this is a bad thing (although I must confess I’ve never read any of his books), Terry Pratchett books, but also a fair share of the classics, from Thomas Hardy to Robert Louis Stevenson and William Faulkner thrown in for good measure. Ah, an English major, I see from her profile; been there, done that. Should that have been a colon? You tell me Christine as a self-described “semi-colon enthusiast.” (Me? I’m a parentheses, or is that parenthetical, enthusiast.)
  • For Suey, a stay-at-home mom who fits in reading between, well, everything, It’s All About Books. We can’t see her face in her profile photo, because appropriately she’s hidden herself behind a book, which is classic. Oh, which she also likes: classics, that is, especially Jane Austen.
  • Laura from North Dallas shares her Reading Reflections, and like Suey, she likes “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak, which like Pratchett I haven’t read yet either. Like me, she’s just starting out on this reading blog adventure, and hopefully we’ll be able to share the ride.

While I was only supposed to discover five, I have to give a special “shout-out” to these bloggers I recently discovered since moving here to WordPress (although I know some of you are from other sites):

Thanks for your warm welcome, fellow reading enthusiasts. I hope to be see more of you around — of course, after I get some reading done here, so I have something to discuss with y’all.
